Reverse shoulder replacement surgery is used for people who have

Massive rotator cuff tears with severe arm weakness
Severe arthritis and rotator cuff tearing (cuff tear arthropathy)
Previous failed shoulder replacement.
In reverse shoulder replacement, the socket and metal ball are reversed. Which means a metal ball is fixed to the shoulder bone and a plastic socket is fixed to the upper part of the arm bone. Deltoid muscle of the arm allows the patient to lift the shoulder instead of rotator cuff muscles.
