Total Shoulder Replacement

TSevere conditions of the shoulder joint with persistent symptoms that does not responded to conservative treatments benefit from total shoulder replacement surgery. Shoulder replacement surgery replaces the damaged joint with an artificial joint that helps patient to have a painless joint and painless movements of the joint.

Shoulder replacement surgery is commonly performed in treating conditions such as:

  • Shoulder Osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid Arthritis
  • Rotator Cuff Tears
  • Avascular Necrosis.

Shoulder replacement is performed usually in one to two hours time and is done under general anesthesia in addition to a regional nerve block.

Recovery

Patients usually stay in the hospital for one to three days and will require physical therapy in order to restore motion and function to the joint after surgery. Most of the patients return to their routine activity within 2 to 3 months time, more demanding activities like playing sports may require upto 5 months of physical training.
